I wished I could’ve helped the NBC reporter Anne Curry up to the top because she and her crew attempted the climb but had to turn back with 1000m. still to go to reach the summit the day after I made it all the way to the top (after praying for the Lord to grant me extra strength.)
So now I would like to challenge the Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore to an expedition to Mt Kilimanjaro because I know it would be an awesome thing for his Weather Channel series The Cantore Stories or one of his other series about people who regularly deal with extreme conditions-it’s like experiencing all 4 seasons every week, all out in the open, all year long years on end for this is just a day in the office for the average Kilimanjaro porter. Besides that there are all the places that reminded me of Hawaii, New Zealand, Scotland, the Andes (lobelia & senecio, or “paramo”), Greenland (snow and ice), and the California foothills (brush) up there. He dosen’t know what he’s missing! And I bet he’s one who can do it!
By the way I recommend he double-garbage-bag all his clothing or it’s gonna get wet. That’s one essential thing I forgot-there is no way to dry wet clothes in front of a roaring fire- because fire is not allowed! And also have spare fresh batteries for his digital camera.

I know it’s a far shot from Africa and Mt Kilimanjaro but I thought I’d share an area of the US that has helped shape my life. Yosemite National Park.

Growing up, I always read stories of Lewis and Clark and their expeditions mapping out the western United States. The books I read always had such vivid descriptions of the great western wilderness. Yosemite is the closest thing to the picture I had in my mind of the experiences and sights of Lewis and Clark. The park is full of breath-taking views and awesome terrain. It really is like taking a step back in time when you visit Yosemite Falls.

Visiting the park changed my life and really turned me on to mother nature. I think everyone should visit here and experience the huge natural works of art that lie here. Backpacking in Yosemite is the perfect way to see everything the park has to offer.
