REI is pretty famous for their awesome stores around the country but they also do trips.  I haven’t been with them yet, but how could anything they do really go wrong.  They do use a local outfitter, subcontracting out much of the service.  But with REI’s guarantee it’s worth taking a look.

Zara Tanzania Adventures is the largest Tanzanian-based outfitter on the mountain. Based in Moshi, they’ve been leading climbs and safaris for over 15 years. Zainab Ansel, the founder and director has become a staple of Mt. Kilimanjaro and is recommended by the Kilimanjaro National Parks Service.

Thompson Safaris is a US-based adventure travel company with over 25 years of experience. They own and run all their local operations in Tanzania as well as their two offices in the US. They provide customized trips including airfares and local accommodations.

National Geographic Expeditions, what can we say. While they’re not cheap, they are impressive. You have the opportunity to travel one of the most beautiful place in the world with a wildlife biologists, naturalists or photographer, getting the inside scope from a real expert.

Alpine Ascents are US-based professional mountain guides. They offer mountaineering training and expert advice to ascend Kilimanjaro as well as all of the 7-Summits. Their mountaineering school and certified guides have earned them a listing on the National Geographic Travel Magazine’s best travel companies list.

The African Walking Company is a Tanzanian-based outfitter with a good reputation. But you will have trouble booking with them directly. Most likely you’ll end up booking with one of our international agents like Peak Planet.
